So, today I stopped at Wal-Mart on the way back from the bank, because I was all out of bottled waters. As I was walking to the far back corner of the store, I happened to pass by the toy aisle, and…
I had to sit there for a moment to understand what had just happened. While I’d dealt with ambiguous situations before, never had I been able to simply make the third option of “screw both of you,…
When I was sixteen, I would have laughed in the face of anyone who said to me that I should just forego driving and ride my bike. I remember wanting to drive so badly, because having that license and…
How often have you found yourself at a dead sprint, when suddenly you’re running in place with no indication of why? This is what I call “The Two-Inch wall.” It’s an immovable obstacle that is…
Entire wars have been fought over respect. The war for America’s independence was fought, not just for freedom, but fought so that the world would respect our right to freedom. America was ridiculed,…
From what I’ve gathered, it’s a short-film psychological thriller that was made for under 50K in the Salt Lake Valley. It was made by my friends Peter McCombs and Weston Critchfield, and represents…
So, I was in Wal-Mart the other day, browsing the DVDs. I took this shot, wondering if anyone realized that “Open Season” doesn’t belong in the middle of films like “Saw” or “Death Race.”
As I think about it, though. They probably don’t see anything wrong with that.
“Balloon Boy” was a shoot that I worked on with Devin Graham and Willem Kampenhout (among several others) in the summer of 2009. The basic idea was this kid’s imagination, and that he tied hundreds of balloons onto a truck to make it fly.
It was a charming, funny little promo piece for the BYU Independent Study program, and seemed to work out quite well. I still remember some long days out there in that field, moving heavy equipment from one side to the other, all the while herding cows away from our staging areas.
Funny stuff, good times.
My family and I have a thing for Disney. Being that we grew up visiting Disneyland almost every year, we’ve been very familiar with the place.
In this shot, shortly after the release of the movie, Cars, Bryant had the opportunity to take a photo with racer extraordinarily Lightning McQueen. Makes for a great shot.

In what was one of the more… “memorable” shoots I’ve ever worked on, this is a still taken during the shooting of a short film called “Blue Sweater.” With nearly fifty people involved as cast and crew, two police cars, an ambulance, and two locations in downtown Salt Lake City, there were quite a few logistics involved.
This one consisted of me doing strange lighting work, dolly gripping, some art direction, and a lot of jury-rigging with an inadequate amount of equipment.
All in all, a great learning experience, and something that Weston, Willem and I laugh about to this day.
